7: "BauHouse" by Cathleen Schandelmeier (Sunday, July 12)

The House
White brick
FUNctional
nestled in pines
with a willow tree
green and supple
waving hello
from the backyard

A home
filled with laughter
shouts of "Damn it all Tress!"
Grandpa said it so much, we thought it was her name

A home
vibrating with love
of two lives entwined for 65 years
The house lost its heart;
boiler pump
the minute grandma died
but not its spirit
the house calls to me
in dreams
and I return now
as I am

Not the 8 year old
jumping out the
2nd floor window
umbrella in hand
-Like Mary Poppins!-
Until Grandpa mailed
our roof access bathroom
window
shut

I long for the house
as it was
the design
lay out
simplicity
family friendly
plain
color provided by life:
tulips
roses
daisies
dresses worn
vibrant
while
beige carpet
pale green calm walls
vinyl salmon colored everyday furniture
and White Verboten sofa

As I am now
the house calls to me
begs me to remove the turquoise bar
and linoleum basement shuffle board
Install a
Music studio
puppet theater
while
the structure remains
fine foundation
of family FUNctional
space
Stays as years progress

Is progress moving back into space where time
can never return?

"Move on!" my husband urges
still the house
speaks to me

with possibility....

due to Fine Design.
