more connections between the Bauhaus and ancient Egypt

It's fascinating that although it seems that on the one had Bauhaus artists wanted to strip design of aesthetic influences that encumber the form, a number of Bauhaus artists seemed to look to ancient civilizations for inspiration. Itten's interest in mysticism seems to point to that (although I'd like to find out more specifics).

Bert Stabler, who was part of "Chicago Bauhaus in July" and who contributed an image from his Johnny Monomyth to Bauhaus9090 (http://bauhaus9090.org/2009/july/17), recently sent me a jpg file of an Oskar Schlemmer illustration that he said was one source of inspiration for "Johnny Monomyth." The Schlemmer illustration reminded me of Egyptian hieroglyphs, esp. those stylized profile images of Egyptians.

One of the Human Dollz (www.humandollz.com) is Pyramid Doll -- head shaped like a pyramid. The Human Dollz have been doing fantastic work!

This year the Bauhaus celebrates its 90th Anniversary. “Bauhaus: 90 Years / 90 Days” is a new project which celebrates the Bauhaus movement; it will take place over 90 days, from July till October 2009. During this 90-day period, projects will be presented to commemorate and pay homage to the Bauhaus in different ways.
