38: "Bauhaus Dorms" by Jeremy Hight (Wednesday, August 12)
In this work and the one preceding it I played with architectural and design elements from various parts of the Bauhaus school's aesthetics and people. Gropius has long been an influence on me in terms of some of his concerns with form and function and the modernist aesthetic in terms of architecture.
Some argue that Locative Media is a return to modernism in some ways which is interesting as this usually is not the association (usually land art, situationists and moving from the frame ) made. The Bauhaus aesthetic and influence resonates deeply in ways that inspired me when I first studied design and typography in my teens and resonates now in terms of the power of a group of creative minds and the thrust of ideas. I tried to make images that pay homage to these aesthetics and to imagine a moment within the flurry that would have been a visit to the school in its time.
