Information

Matt Barton is a wordy misfit obsessed with the simple beauty of life’s grand spectacle revealed in the naked truth of its minutia. In whatever medium he works in, he strives to reveal that beauty by using an honest, unabashed, no holds barred form of grammar, where images speak for themselves and are free to express their own precocious, unrestrained notions in their own terms. He strives to remind us, in spite of everything, what a fragile and precious gift it is to experience each new day: not by telling us about it, but rather simply by drawing our attention to it.

Matt is a member of the Waiting 4 the Bus Poetry Collective, a loose collaboration of Chicago poets and performers banded together to rescue poetry and spoken word from the scourge of genre and other common afflictions. Matt is also one of the principal collaborators of the fledgling poetry journal Exact Change Only, where he dabbles as Art Director. He is a book artist, responsible for designing and publishing several chapbooks featuring his own poetry, as well as the work of several Chicago poets under his imprint Naked Mannekin.

When he is not crawling through the brambles, Matt Barton practices law in Chicago and spends time with his wife and two sons.
